Why is moment of inertia analogous to mass?

Moment of inertia plays the same role as mass in many kinematic equations when the equations are describing rotation. For example, in linear kinematics we have $\tau = I \alpha$, which is analogous to $F=ma$. There are more examples in my big analogy table.
