Rough Outline of Material to be Covered

This material to be covered is not set in stone, but may be modified as the semester progresses. As we go along, specific readings from the text will be posted on Sakai. Some material not in the textbook may be covered in lecture.

• Basics of Python programming
• Integrals and derivatives
• Solutions of linear and non-linear equations
• Solving ODE and PDEs including the Laplace and Poisson equations
• Fourier transforms and fast Fourier transforms
• Random Processes and Monte Carlo
• Bayesian Inference and Markov Chain Monte Carlo

Problems from quantum mechanics, electromagnetism, astrophysics, etc, will be used as examples. Students will have the opportunity to study a topic of their choice in further depth with a final project and presentation.
