What kinds of coordinate systems are there other than cylindrical and spherical, and what are their applications?

Cartesian (rectilinear), cylindrical and spherical are the most commonly used geometric coordinate systems, and they are useful for describing systems with their respective symmetries. There are also hyperbolic coordinate systems and others corresponding to different geometries.

Later in the course we will use ``generalized coordinates'' and we will see how they can be useful.
