Much of this paper applies as well to any linux based cluster, including simple LAN clusters of workstations used as nodes. Many of these designs do not form, strictly speaking, a ``beowulf supercomputer'', but the term ``beowulf'' in this paper will be used for all beowulf-style clusters.
