Lament

I've drunk the milk of paradise
And seen in vision towers tall
With mystic maiden locked within
Who wasn't there at all.

I sought the mastery of this land
Where milk and honey to my hand
Would flow in rivers at my call.
It wasn't there at all.

Dark-faced henchmen at my cry
Siezed the land and did them die
Who on their knees refused to fall.
They were not there at all.

Naked and perfumed they brought her
With eyes like wine! And so I bought her
In golden chains she was my thrall.
She wasn't there at all.

A thousand kingdoms I did rule
And some may think that I was cruel
But black ahead there loomed the wall.
I wasn't there at all.

One night as on my breast she lay
She dispelled like mist in day
She wasn't really there at all.
Wasn't there at all.
