Fallout

To watch the earth sicken
And the Death march upon your land
Must surely be worse than the curse
Of a quick end, unperceived,
Dealt by a distant hand.
The sheaves of corn that wither
The wintering of leaves by rays unseen
That burn to brown the heather
And turn to dust what once was green
And sear the lamb and sheep alike
Bundling their wails and agony
Yearning spun from a longing for
Green meadows and pastures;
There are no pastures anymore.
The loving shepherd's watchful eye
That warded the evil from the valley
Has melted and run down his face
His bloated body is covered with flies
Who drink in death with his blood.
The rain no longer brings surcease
It rinses off the falling, dusty hair
And plucks the final feather
It wets the roots that remain
But carries within it a legacy of doom
To the flowers. It fills the bitter cup
That with the force of prophecy
Will follow the fall
Of one and all
From the unchecked agenda of man.

Know the failure of your future;
As nature sickens
Deer die
Dogs go mad
Your sons and house
Pass fevered in the endless night
While cancer and decay claim
The ones you love the most.
The ghost of your spouse hangs over your bed
Where once you shared love that now is shed
Like the scab of the sores that lie on your face
Unhealed. The depth of your misery
Your fall from grace
The death of laughter and hope
As you grope through the radioactive dust
To a door that leads to forever
Would shame a Hitler.

The Valkyries turn their faces away
Their wings no longer flutter
In the truth of their dismay.
When Valhalla's walls comes tumbling down
Valhalla falls without a sound
Into the sea.
