Jets, energy flow and the 'real gluon'

Among the foundations of perturbative QCD is the analysis of energy flow, which is at the basis infrared safety. Event shapes quantify energy flow and interpolate between the weak- and strong coupling regimes of QCD. I will describe some efforts to bridge this gap starting from the perturbative side.
