The Universities of Melbourne and Sydney have been part of ATLAS from its inception and would very much like to host this meeting in 2009. Although this is not a formal proposal with detailed venue and dates, if there is seen to be interest amongst the Executive Committee in an Australian venue, we would be pleased for follow up with a prompt response for further consideration. In deciding the exact venue, I should point out that there are several opportunities ranging from city-based venues, for example a venue including the University of Melbourne; a conference centre in an Australian bushland setting; or a coastal resort conference centre. As for the cost, although airfares are not insignificant, hotels, and other expenses in Australia are considerably less than in Europe, the US or Japan. Careful selection of exact dates, and early bookings can result in significant discounts in airfares. I hope this suggestion finds support amongst your colleagues. Sincerely, Geoffrey Taylor ______________________ Professor Geoffrey N.
