From gordon@bnl.gov Sun May 21 19:51:15 2006 Date: Tue, 16 May 2006 19:16:57 -0400 From: "Gordon, Howard A" To: Ashutosh Kotwal Cc: "Dawson, Sally" , "Lissauer, David" , Hong Ma , "Rajagopalan, Srini" Subject: HCP 2009 proposal - not sure who all should receive this Brookhaven National Laboratory proposes to host the 2009 HCP Symposium.         2009 is expected to be a watershed year in hadronic physics.         The CDF and D0 experiments should have achieved almost their lifetime luminosities, and the LHC will be in the first years of a discovery phase.  We propose a scientific program focused on emerging new experimental results, along with a strong phenomenological emphasis.  Our conference facilities at Berkner Hall can hold ~450 people for plenary sessions with excellent sound, video projection, wireless network AND electric power at most seats.  Also the lobby and cafeteria in the same building allow convenient coffee breaks, meals and receptions.  Depending on the exact timing, we could reserve dormitory rooms at (2006 prices - $32/day) which are walking distance to Berkner Hall.  There are other accommodations on site and within 15 minutes of the Lab. We have an extremely active theory group as well as the large ATLAS experimental group at BNL.  These groups will provide strong leadership in determining the scientific program with the International Program Committee. BNL is the site of the U.S. Tier 1 Computing Center.  Tours of the facilities maybe of interest to the participants and could include:  the Relativistic Heavy Ion Colliders and its  experiments, the National Synchrotron Light Source, the  Instrumentation Division, the Center for Functional Nanomaterials, the  Superconducting Magnet Division and the Accelerator Test Facility. We would propose a schedule of events in addition to the scientific program something like: Sunday  - Wine and Cheese Reception  Monday - Clam Bake on Smith Point Park on the Atlantic Ocean beach   Tuesday - Dinner and Concert Wednesday - half day trip to New York   City with options for a tour, dinner,  Broadway show, or concert.  Thursday - Dinner and Outreach event  All lunches, dinners (except Wednesday) and coffee breaks would be   covered in the registration cost which we estimate at $350. We assume this would be sometime during May 2009 a beautiful time on Long Island. On behalf of Howard Gordon, for the Conference Organizing Committee
