Abstract:  Quantum design is aimed at controling the eigenspectrum, excitations, transport, and other physical properties of nano-sized quantum systems via controlling their size, shape, and structural composition. Using a combination of modern modeling techniques and optimization procedures, one can succeed in solving the inverse problem, namely, to find a nanostructure which has the desired functionality. In my talk I will discuss recent advances in design of nanoscale systems (quantum dots, superconducting nanowires, precisely positioned atoms on a surface, etc).
