Title: Quantum Dots as Qubits

Charles Marcus

Harvard University

Thursday October 2, 1h30 pm, Room 234, Physics Building

Host: Harold Baranger

Abstract: This talk will present some background on electron transport in mesoscopic quantum dots, and examine some proposed schemes for implementing qubits using the spin degree of freedom. Devices made from both gate defined GaAs heterostructures and carbon nanotubes will be discussed. The talk will not aim to "make the case" for quantum dots, but rather will hopefully help identify opportunities and challenges with this approach.
